We love our senior boxers. You will, too!

The Advantages of Adopting a Senior Boxer:

Maybe you are reluctant to adopt a senior dog because you fear that your time with your new best friend will be shorter, but the privilege of loving a senior dog makes every single day special, as you and your companion share love, friendship, and a special bond that grows stronger with the knowledge that you have given this gentle older dog a second chance at life. This relationship is stronger than the pain of eventual separation, which, afterall, is inevitable with any family pet.

So, why adopt a senior boxer?

Companionship. Senior dogs whose lives have been disrupted in their later years have so much love to give and like nothing better than giving it. They tend to rely heavily on their owner for companionship and bond quickly.

Ease of care. Senior dogs, in most cases, do not have the same exercise requirements as younger ones, and given that boxers are an energetic breed, this fact can add extra appeal to adopters who prefer a more relaxed routine. They have experienced the chewing/destructive stage long ago, and want nothing more than some play time mixed with a healthy dose of quiet, snuggle time. Their walks can be therapeutic for *both* dog and owner! Although some senior dogs may require more frequent veterinary visits, the joys of owning a senior dog will greatly outweigh the effort involved, as will the extra years of companionship gained under veterinary guidance.

Teach an old dog new tricks? You sure can. While it may take an older dog a bit longer to adjust to new situations, they can, and they do. Their only requirement is to be given the opportunity. Generally, older dogs are calmer and therefore will focus much easier on what you are trying to teach them. They are as eager to please as they ever were!

They deserve their "happily ever after", too.  Unfortunately, senior dogs are often looked over and continue to wait patiently for their forever families to come along while the young dogs in rescues and shelters are adopted at a much higher rate. If only people understood what they were missing out on!  These sweet dogs tend to spend more time waiting patiently in foster care instead of joining a family, and it's a shame to see such well-rounded pets have to wait so long.
