LucyEstimated Vet Cost: $8000.00Money Raised: $2525.00
| 06/02/2013: Lucy is doing pretty well she is still making progress though she did have to go to the vet as one of the pins was coming through her skin. We are hopeful that her pins will be removed very soon. Here is our little patient with her happy boxer smile.
4/25/2013
Today Lucy went for her two week check up from her second surgery. Dr. Mertens gave her four paws up and said he was so happy to see her putting equal weight on all four legs. She is making great progress but we still have keep all activity to a minimum for 6 more weeks. L Lucy will return to CVS June for a recheck and more x-rays to see how she is progressing. At her follow up Dr. Mertens will decide when he wants Lucy to return for pin removal. He said it is a real easy procedure should only take about 10 minutes! Thank you for all the continued prayers, donations and support. It will be approximately about 4 months before Lucy should be fully release from CVS.
Hi All, 03/26/2013 Lucy is still recovering at CVS. One of our volunteers, Joelle, stopped in to visit with her yesterday and said she looks much better. She said she actually got some nub wiggles! Lucy has a lot of drainage from her surgical site which the vet said is to be expected and they are using Destin on her skin to keep her comfortable. They removed her drainage tube from her abdomen as well. Joelle said she actually licked just a little canned food from the vet techs hand today but is till leery about eating. The vet feels this will improve as she starts to feel better and gets more strength back. Were hoping for a good report in the days to come! Thank you to everyone who has supported Lucy in her battle! She is a fighter for sure!!!!
03-25-2013 Lucy made it through the night!!! During surgery the vet found that her small intestines and spleen were also pushed into her chest cavity. The vet and staff moved all of her organs back into their proper places. During surgery they noticed that a portion of her small intestine had started to turn purple, which means it did not have blood flow for some time, but when all of her organs were moved back into place, the blood started to flow through immediately and this portion of her intestines turned pink again! We have very high hopes for this girl but she remains in critical condition. Please continue to pray for her and please considering donating to her ER funds if you can. Her vet bills currently exceed $5,000.00.
3-24-2013: Lucy began having pain last night and her foster mom was concerned so took her to the ER vet (CVS) this am. She is currently in emergency surgery and in very critical condition. The vet found her stomach had flipped into her chest and it was blocking the blood flow to her heart and lungs. The vet feels this happened when she was hit by a the car last week. They are unsure about other organ damage until they open her during surgery! Please say huge prayers for Lucy!
03-20-2013: Lucy's injuries are worse then we thought. Her front leg fracture is on the same side as her dislocated hip. She literally does not have a leg to stand on and must be carried in and out and be stabilized to use the bathroom. She is in a lot of pain. We are treating her with medication now to try and keep her comfortable.

JesterEstimated Vet cost: $2000.00 Money Raised: $1160.00 | 02/15/2013: Jester is improving daily! He has gained ten pounds since BRBR rescued him last week. He is getting more excited when he sees people and is just a happy boy. He was netuered and the vet looked over his knee and took a sample. They said it is not cancer (Yay!) but they will have to go back and do some orthopedic work on his knee once he is healthier. Were hoping Jester will be making it to his foster home next week. 02/11/2013 Jester is doing better today. He is finally eating but still hasn't had a bowel movement. Right now he prefers wet over dry food so we have been giving him what he wants! He is wiggling his nub when people come in and has been getting some great attention from our the staff at Eastridge Animal Hospital. Were hoping for more updates this weekend! Thank you so much for everyone's care and concern for this boy! Keep the prayers coming. He has a LONG road ahead of him! ![]() 02/6/2013 BRBR received a cry for help for this boy, now named Jester. Thankfully everything lined up for us to make him ours yesterday. He arrived safely at our vets office late yesterday and received pain meds to keep him comfortable through the night. Today Jester was assessed my our vet at Eastridge Animal Hospital in Gastonia, NC. Here is an update: Jester is not eating, he had some diarrhea last night, so we did a parvo test. Thankfully it was negative. Jester is heartworm positive. He has several old pelvis fractures, as well as, a bad infection in his knee. The knee injury also appears to be an old injury that was never addressed. He is receiving fluids, pain meds and antibiotics. Jester weighs 48 lbs. but should weigh about 85 lbs. He is alert and sits up when people visit his room. He is actually crying when people leave the room. Our hope is that Jester can heal and overcome all that he has been dealt. We appreciate any donations that are contributed to his vet care!

QueentyEstimated Vet cost: $1500.00 Money Raised: $645.00 | 2-16-2013 Queenty is doing great in her foster home. She loves other dogs and is no longer sick. She is a high energy girl who loved burning off some energy in the snow we had this weekend! Thank you for your continued care and support! Click here to watch Queenty in the snow! 1-29-2013 Queenty is doing great! Her nasal drainage is minimal and this little girl is full of life. Due to being in isolation for so long her medical bills are over 1500.00. Please donate to Queentys fund to help us cover the cost of her medical bills if you can! We are hoping Queenty can go to her foster home this weekend! 1-26-2013 Queenty continues to have a cough and nasal drainage but she seems to be over the hump with the Parvo. She is happy and wiggly again and is throwing her food bowl around in her crate! The vets are treating Queenty as though she has canine influenza or pneumonia at this time but they are very optimistic and hopeful she can be discharged home next week. Keep the prayers coming for this sweet girl! 1-22-2013 Queenty now has a cough and runny nose but seems to be feeling better and continues to eat and wag her tail! Were hoping were over the hump and Queenty is on her way to recovering! Please keep this girl in your thoughts and prayers! 1-19-2013 Queenty is eating today and is wagging her tail! This is a great sign! Keep the prayers coming!!! 1-16-2013 Queenty was rescued from a shelter in North Carolina on Friday January 11, 2013. It was a routine rescue for BRBR and she was staying at Eastridge Animal Hospital over the weekend so she could be spayed Monday. Monday Queenty starting to not eat and became lethargic. A parvo test was completed and it came back positive. Right now she has no interest in food and is receiving treatment for Parvo and IV fluids. Please say a HUGE prayer for this girl. Parvo is very serious, but can be treated if caught early enough. We are hoping with the treatment she is receiving that she will pull through!!! The citure to the right is the day she was rescued from the shelter. You can tell how happy and "wild" she is. The pictures below are from today. The staff say she is very sweet but is obviously feeling very bad.

Optimus PrissEstimated Vet cost: $4000.00 Money Raised: $1315.00
| 2-16-2013Opie continue to do great! Her leg is healing wonderfully and she is loving being in a foster home. She is getting along with the other dogs in the house and one of her best friends is a mix female dog. As you can see in the picture below her leg is looking great! Thank you for your continued care and support. 1-29-2013 Opie is doing great! She will be going to her foster home Saturday! She is eating and driking well and has minimal nasal drainage. Opie will continue to require bandage changes to her leg but our vet feels she will heal without any complications. After getting our total costs today for her vet care, her bill is over 4000.00. Please donate to this girls medical bills if you are able to. Thank you! 1-26-2013 Opie's wound is healing nicely. As you can see from the picture below the site is closing well and the tissue is granulating, which is great. Opie started to eat yesterday which is HUGE when a dog has parvo. We are hoping since she is eating she is over the hump with the Parvo but she is now battling a secondary infection. The vet is treating the infection like possible pneumonia or canine flu. Please keep the prayers coming for this girl!
1-22-2013 Opie is still doing okay but continues to not feel well. Were hoping for more of an update later today or tomorrow. Thank you for your continued prayers!
1-21-2013 Well...Opie's leg is healing well and the tissue is granulating and healing nicely. We just found out this morning that Opie has contracted Parvo. Poor Opie can not catch a break. Were extremely concerned about her outcome given the fact that she has had so many issues with her leg and her body is weak from fighting the terrible infections she had. Not only do we need donations for her care but more than that we need prayers and good thoughts for this girl to recover! Please say huge prayers and positive vibes and we will update as soon as we have more info.
1-16-2013 Opie is continuing to heal nicely! Her bandages are being changed daily and the vets are very happy with her recovery! Were hoping she will be able to leave the vets office next week andgo to her foster home! Stay tunred for more updates! 1-13-2013 Our girl Opie is doing better today. The Dr. is much more optimistic for Opie and the some of the swelling in her leg has gone down. He cleared all the dead tissue and tucked her skin to healthy underlying tissue and muscle to help it heal. We now have high hopes that we can save the leg. He put the leg in a splint just so she cannot move it too much and give it a chance of healing faster. She also needed a drain placed in her front leg to help heal an exisiting infection there as well. She will need bandage changes daily or every other day so she will be staying at our vet for a least a week depending on how the healing this goes. Opie is YOUNG! 1-2 years TOPS. She has been is TWO separate accidents. Her hip fractures are old. She has a resolving ear hematoma & she is a rack of bones. Opie has suffered serious neglect for her entire life. We are doing all we can to ease her pain and help her lead a healthy, happy life. Please consider donating towards Opie's care.
1-12-2013 The news on Ms. Opie is not very good. First there is no fracture of the leg, but the flesh wound is so badly infected and the remaining skin is necrotic (dead). They have debrided (removed) a lot of tissue already, she is on 2 antibiotic IVs , and pain meds. She also has a broken pelvis from a previous accident which is an old fracture - which will heal, but she has terrible arthritis in her hip which is very painful. We are unsure of what caused her injuries but more than likely she was hit by a car. The vet flushed out her wounds and cleaned her up and he thought the leg had a fighting chance, but he has just looked at her again and is not so sure it does now, so it may have to be amputated to save her life. We are going to watch the infection and keep her on the meds until tomorrow, and then we will make the call. The unfortunate thing for her , even if we amputate the pain in her hip will still be there. Through it all Ms. Opie is sweet as can be. Please help us give this girl the life she deserves. You can donate towards her care at the link below. Thank you for caring about Ms. Opie! 1-11-2013 Meet Optimus Priss (formerly known as Oprtimus Prime!). Meet Optimus Priss. She was brought into the shelter by Animal Control yesterday. She needed immediate rescue or she would have been euthanized because of her injuries. She is about 2 yrs old and she is HW-! her tibia and fibula are completely broken. She will need tobe seen by a specialist so we can hopefully save her leg! Please help us help Optimus get the care she needs. Thank you!!

BacallEstimated Vet cost: $3000.00Money Raised: $2545.00
| 1-29-2013Bacall is doing good! She had her colonoscopy Monday and we dont have any real answers yet. They did say Bacall is suffering from colitis which is secondary to a weakened immune system and it has allowed bacteria to invade. We will have her regular lab report back in about a week but they also sent lab work off to Cornell University because they are actually doing a study on colitis in dogs right now! They expect to have those results back in ten business days! Once we have those results back we will hear from the vet about treatment options! Thank you for your continued support and prayers! 1-16-2013 Bacall had her US at CVS in Huntersville but it didn't show any specific "issues" This poor girl continues to have blood diarrhea but has a wonderful boxer spirit. She will be going to CVS again on January 29, 2013 for a colonoscopy. We are hoping the colonoscopy will shed some light on what may be going on with her and help us determine our next steps in treatment for this girl!
12/11/2012: Here is an update on this sweet girl, please help us if you can! BRBR rescued Bacall in October. She was diagnosed with Parvo at that time and was treated for it and has been doing okay. Bacall has been experiencing diarrhea at her foster home intermittently so we took her back to one of BRBR’s vets for further evaluation. They are concerned that Bacall may have some polyps in her intestines or even possibly a tumor. She has also been diagnosed with Large Intestine disease and she also has demodex. Bacall no longer has blood in her stool, but it continues to be very loose. Bacall will be seen at CVS in Huntersville tomorrow for further diagnostic testing and have an ultrasound as well as a colonoscopy to see if they can determine why she continues to have diarrhea. Please say some big prayers for this girl. She is so sweet and loving and deserves to much out of life. We are hoping we can get some results from tomorrows vet appointment so we can move forward with her care. Please consider donating to her fund if you can. Her trip to CVStomorrow will be a minimum of $600.00 and this doesn’t include the over $1000.00 we have spent on her since October. Thank you!!!! 10/18/2012: This girl has Parvo...She will need meds, fluids and to be watched over the next few days at Cabarrus. She has blood diarrhea and this is why they did the parvo test. Thank goodness she is heartworm negtiave...She has an eye infection and looks to have a fungal infection around her eyes and on her feet. They estimate her to be about 4-5 yrs old. Please say some HUGE prayers for this girl...Parvo will go one of two ways...she will either get better or she wont...The sooner she starts to perk up the better. Here is a chip in link. LauraVet Bill Cost: $1200Amount Raised: $1570!!!
| 12/11/12 Laura is healing nicely and really recovering well. She is walking with a slight limp but is walking and running not to mention chasing her foster mom around the house and playing with her and the smaller dogs in the house. 10/6/2012: Laura is doing wonderfully with her recovery although she has crate fever at the moment and is tired of being on crate rest! She iss still not putting weight on her leg but her stiches are being removed Thursday so the vet will assess her improvement then. The swelling in her leg has gone down which is a great sign and we all know she will be happy once the stiches are removed. She hasn't had to wear her cone because she doesn't even attempt to lick her leg which is a great thing! Laura is going to start water rehab once her stiches are removed (her foster mom is working on finding a location close to her). This will give Laura a little pleasure since she loves water so much and swimming. 10/1/2012: Sweet Laura had a meniscus repair of her left rear leg on September 25, 2012. Laura did fabulous through her surgery and is now recouping in her foster home. Laura is on crate rest for the next 30 days to give her leg time to heal. After the 30 days of crate rest she will be re-evaluated by one of BRBR's vets to determine the rest of her rehab. BRBR is looking into warm underwater treadmill rehab at this time.We will update you more over the next few weeks to let you know how this girl is doing.
