Asked
Questions
* How do I adopt a dog from Blue Ridge Boxer Rescue?
In order to adopt a BRBR dog you will need to visit our website and fill out an adoption application. You MUST fill out an adoption application to be considered for adoption. Please keep in mind that once you submit the application, it can take up to 3 weeks to process. BRBR is strictly a volunteer organization. If your application is approved you will be contacted by one of our volunteers, to schedule a home visit.
* What is the fee for adoption?
4 months-8 months $275
8 months-1 year $250
Over 1 year $225
The adoption fee is used to pay for medical expenses. Which includes but is not limited to: spay/neuter operation, vaccinations, heartworm test, heartworm treatment and boarding fees. Any money that is left over from the adoption fee is applied to other dogs in the rescue.
* Do you adopt in my area?
We ONLY adopt in North Carolina, South Carolina and some areas of Virginia. There are many reasons for this. During the adoption process you will have a volunteer visit your home and complete a home visit. Our volunteers are spread all over NC, SC and VA, so if you are not in this area there will not be a volunteer to complete your home visit, no home visit no adoption. Another reason, once the adoption process is complete and you have adopted a Boxer from BRBR, if for any reason you are unable to keep your adopted boxer, the dog MUST be returned to BRBR as your adoption contract states. Volunteers must be close by to be able to assist you in getting the boxer back to us.
* Can I adopt an unaltered Boxer?
No! No! No! There are NO exceptions to this rule!! This is the reason that animal shelters and rescues have to exist. There are too many over crowded rescues and shelters, this being said it means that there are way too many dogs on a daily basis that are euthanized because there is no place for them to go. Not to mention the health risks that are increased due to a dog not being unaltered.
* How can I adopt a puppy that is listed on your website?
It is very rare that we get puppies into our program. If we do, 95% of the time they already have a home that has applied prior and already been approved and have been patiently waiting on a puppy. If you are interested in adopting a puppy, please apply to adopt in advance and not when you see the puppy on the website, more than likely they alreay have a home.
* Where do the dogs in the BRBR program come from?
BRBR get boxers many different ways. Most of our boxers are from shelters in NC and SC. We actually have to adopt the boxers from the shelters just as you would if you were adopting them. We too have to pay an adoption fee! We are usually called for a dog that is on death row, because of over crowding at the shelter. Some of our dogs come from owners that decide they would like to surrender their boxers to us for various reasons.
